Introducing Royalty: Royal Taro

A very humble beginning with a goal of making some of the best bingsu Melbourne has to offer and more.

January 31, 2019

Taro was a very nostalgic flavour for our team at Scoopy.  It throws us back to the summer time, heading to bubble tea shops and ordering a 'Taro ice blend with rainbow jelly and tapioca pearls' was the epitome of growing up Asian in Melbourne back in the late 2000s. Taro is a purple potato that is slightly sweet and has a unique flavour that is hard to describe.

The inspiration behind our Royal Taro flavour was to recreate the icon drink into a new modern vessel. The rainbow jelly and tapioca pearls was a must. However, a topping that surprisingly worked very well was the blueberry popping pearls! The first time trying the blueberry popping pearls on the Royal Taro felt like it was made to be eaten with the taro ice. We launched it back in January 2019.

Our Royal Taro was almost called 'Taro Monster'. Luckily a team member took inspiration in calling it 'Royal Taro' from the boom of Royal Milk Tea and bubble tea shops being all the craze at the time.

It was our first time introducing a brand new flavour, not one that was already tried and tested with our friends and family. We're so glad it worked out, who knew so many people also shared the same sentiment as we did with the taro flavour. It has earned it spot as the best selling and most popular flavour on our menu. It always hits, it never misses.
